Clinics
Clinics Chairman George Riley has been working very hard lining up some well known clinicians for the convention. Most of our clinicians have had articles featured in the model railroad magazines. Clinics will vary from how-to clinics for those just getting into the hobby, to Make & Take clinics, to a convention-long clinic where a small layout will be built from the ground up in only four days! The focus of Clinics at the Narrow-Gauge Convention will be on modeling and skills building supported by prototype documentation. Attendees will be able to view presentations hosted by skilled modelers and railroad historians. These will range from building and installing the perfect turnout, to constructing historically accurate on-road vehicles, to building unique logging rolling stock from historic photographs. Hands-on clinics will allow the attendee to construct a take-away model for the topic presented. These are just a few of the many topics that will be covered in Hickory, North Carolina.

Please provide a title of your clinic and a brief abstract as to its contents. A photograph or two will also assist in making a selection.

Three Extra Fare Hands on Clinics will be available at the convention. They are specifically designed to provide all the materials needed to assemble a model project to take with each participant at the end of the clinic. Since materials will need to be ordered in advance reservations and payment must be received forty-five days prior to the beginning of the Convention.
Clinic 1 – Modeling Anaconda with George Riley
Assemble one of three historic structures based on those located in Anaconda, Colorado at the turn of the twentieth century. The participant can choose from one of three Bollinger Edgerly laser cut kits that will be constructed during this presentation. Stains, adhesives, laser cut shingles and other peripheral items will be provided.

Clinic 2 – Making Realistic Deciduous Trees with Wire Armatures with Patti Short
A model tree will be constructed using floral wire and acrylic medium to form the trunk and branches. Ground foam and static grass materials will provide the foliage.

Clinic 3 – Tall Timber with Mike Sagers
Construct a tall soft wood tree with realistic bark texture using a carved balsa stick and commonly available scenery materials. Mike will walk each participant through each step used in making these foreground models.
